Write with Zen Mode

Reduce surrounding interface noise without copying, moving, or changing the note's content.

Covered here

  • Zen Mode

Updated 2026-08-01

1

Enter Zen Mode

  1. 1.Open an editable existing note or Keep's inline new-note composer.
  2. 2.Choose Zen mode above the detected note.
  3. 3.Continue writing in Keep's original title, body, checklist, and media controls.
2

What changes while focused

  • Keep's header, sidebar, background feed, metadata, labels, and auxiliary actions are hidden temporarily.
  • The note expands into a centered canvas that follows the note's rendered light or dark colors.
  • Existing focus and scrolling remain available inside the native editor.
3

Exit without closing the note

Choose Exit Zen or press Escape once. The normal Keep interface returns and the note remains open. Closing or replacing the note, navigating, reloading, or stopping the extension also clears Zen Mode.

Important boundaries

  • Zen Mode works only while an editable native Keep note is open.
  • Its state is not saved or carried to another note, tab, or browser session.
  • It changes presentation only and does not serialize, clone, or save note content itself.
